One of my friends gave Joni one of her birthday balloons a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday that balloon flew away. She wanted to take it to grandma's house and back. Peter opened the car door and the balloon flew out. :(
Joni stared up into the sky and it took a few seconds before she realizes what happened and burst into tears. She asks us to catch it. Poor thing. We told her we were sorry and that we'll get a big balloon to replace that one. She said no that was too big. Later she said that it was okay but the tears were still coming down. I told her maybe the balloon was going to the moon. (She's really into the planets and the moon now.) Joni perked up a little. She said she was going to go on a REAL rocket ship to the moon to find her balloon.
When we get into our building, we do this thing where we race to our door. So we start running and it seems she is starting to forget about the balloon then... there's more whimpering and then she says "Mama I'm so sad..." That's so sad and cute at the same time. I think that was the first time ever that she said she was sad. She really did look sad. What's a mother to do?
